Support from Family and Friends

The decision to undergo weight loss surgery is a momentous one. You will face challenges in adopting new lifestyle habits, and during the coming weeks and months it will be important for you to have support and understanding from family and friends.

Some family and friends may not be immediately supportive of your decision. In some cases, preconceived notions cause people to hold fear or negative opinions about obesity surgery. Sharing educational materials with them about the risks associated with obesity and the benefits of surgery will help them to better understand your choice. If you do not find strong support from those immediately around you, however, you will find it at the Garrison Center and in the many support groups in our area. Those who have struggled with obesity and have undergone surgery understand your concerns, and are there to give you support, encouragement, and answers to your questions.

A word about the pre-surgical process

The Garrison Center is here to help you not only with the medical aspects  of losing weight, but with ALL the issues required for your success. Many patients need assistance during the pre-surgical process of  obtaining clearances from physician specialists and authorizations from their insurance companies.

A special team of experts at the Garrison Center is dedicated to facilitating this process for you. Whereas it commonly takes several months to complete all the pre-surgical steps at other centers, patients at the Garrison Center can expect just three weeks between their initial consultation and authorization for surgery.
